Substance Use Services
Support for people working toward recovery, at a pace that feels right.
Recovery Support
Counseling creates space to understand how substance use developed, what keeps it going, and what you want to change. Treatment is shaped around your needs, strengths, readiness, goals and circumstances.
Substance use and mental health concerns often occur together. Therapy may explore how anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, stress or relationship difficulties interact with substance use, and when involving family may help too.
- Exploring motivation and readiness for change
- Understanding triggers and patterns
- Strengthening coping skills
- Addressing trauma and emotional concerns
- Improving relationships and daily stability

Understanding Substance Use
How it starts
Most people who run into trouble with alcohol or drugs didn't set out to. Use often begins as a way to relax, to fit in, to sleep, or to quiet stress, sadness or painful memories. Over time the body and the brain adjust, and it takes more to get the same effect.
Why stopping is hard
Substance use changes how the brain handles reward and stress, so cutting back is much more than a matter of willpower. Shame makes it harder, because it keeps people from asking for help. Anxiety, depression and trauma often sit alongside, and each makes the other worse.
What helps
Counseling starts where you are. You don't have to be ready to stop to talk about it. Together we look at what the use does for you, what it costs, and what you want. From there: understanding your triggers, building other ways to cope, and steadier relationships and routines.
When to reach out
It's time when you use more than you mean to, when cutting back has been hard, or when it is causing trouble at home, at work or with your health. If you ever feel physically unwell when you stop drinking or using, talk with a doctor first, because stopping suddenly can be dangerous.
